To Allah (SWT) all the praises, and prayers and salutation be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad
(SAWS).
Introduction
The aim of our campaign in Indonesia, the first in Asia, was to raise awareness of the ruqyah methods
allowing an effective fight against all forms of witchcraft and against shirk, the only unforgivable sin in
Islam. A transgression of such great seriousness deserved that we fully devote ourselves. Al
Hamdulillah, this experience was very instructive, and that's why we would like to share it with you.
Geography of Indonesia
Indonesia is currently the fourth most populated place in the world, with 235 million inhabitants. This
archipelago of 17,000 islands, of which 11 000 inhabited islands, is divided into 33 provinces. The
geographic complexity of the country reflects its cultural complexity. A country rich in its cultural
heritage, a region itself can accommodate many traditional cultures, that is why there is a wide
diversity of arts, culinary traditions etc. ...
This is during the thirteenth century through the Muslim traders that Islam permanently got settled in
Indonesia. We notice however that Islamic mausoleum Leran (East Java) has gravestone dating from
the 11th Century.
Indonesia has now around 85% Muslim - 90% for a few years ago - making it officially the most
Muslim populated country in the world. This decrease of about 5% is partly explained by the religious
plans of missionaries to convert the masses to Christianity.
The island of Batam
We chose the island of Batam as a testing ground for its strategic geographical position, bordering
both countries Singapore and Malaysia. Indeed, Batam is located 45 minutes by boat from Singapore
and 1:30 hour to Malaysia . Its tropical climate is, hot and humid with humidity rates reaching 95%.
Therefore, we sweat constantly and clothing stick to our skin. Under these conditions, we imagine that
any european will find it difficult to bear such a haevy climate.
The island of Batam is mainly known for its bargain shopping and sex tourism. Poverty is alarming, the
average salary is about one hundred euros per month. We understand why blue collar mostly live in
makeshift homes in corrugated iron.
Despite the large number of tourists visiting the island each year, there are only few Indonesians who
can speak english, so we initially experienced some communication problems, which have dissipated
over time. Thus, we still managed to get our message through.
The ruqyah, an effective healing abandoned
Unlike some countries, the ruqyah here is known to all. Indeed, some time ago, the ulema (doctors in
islamic sciences) explained the ruqyah and practiced regularly in a television program. Nevertheless,
despite their warnings and wise advices, muslims turned away from their reminders and headed to the
sorcerers, and that, for several reasons:
- Sorcerers called "paranormals" redoubled their efforts in spreading their evil against the obstacle
presented by this television show.
- Because of the large number of patients on the island, the ruqyah therapy group were widespread with the disadvantage of a much less effective results and monitoring were not individualized.
Therefore, many patients seeking more immediate solutions sought other avenues of healing despite
their dangerousness.
- Difficult cases did not find solutions (paralysis, blindness, madness, etc ...).
- Finally, the ignorance and naivety of muslims made them an easy target for the sorcerers.
On a positive note, some of those ulema healers are also practicing psychotherapy to their patients
before the reading of the holy quran. Thus, the ruqyah fits perfectly in a medical process. It is a natural
alternative and conventional medical therapy.
Implementation of ruqyah in a high school
On site, we quickly realized the extent of the problem. Our big job was to convince the population to
return to the quran to treat problems of witchcraft and jinn possession.
As an illustration, we visited a school where two to three students a day faint. A very good opportunity
for us. The director told us that she had contacted the ruqyah team of the island. This team is
operating in the country for over twenty years, and ten ulemas healers are practicing. They practice
ruqyah part-time, and usually in the evening after isha prayers in an Islamic center attached to a large
electronics singaporian factory, donations from patients contribute to the maintenance costs of the
center.
This is for efficiency that ruqyah was made to the entire students of the school, and we found out that
it woke up the jinns of some students. Predictably, the number of incidents has increased with six to
seven case of daily jinn possessions after the venue of the center in the school.
The director told us she no longer believed in ruqyah and that since the intervention of this team, the
situation got worse. Given its legitimate concern, we proposed to do a course about ruqyah and
teachers and students had a big interest in it.
We presented the diagnosis, symptoms and the cure, and an explanation on how to heal oneself. All
were delighted with this tutorial, we noted a very strong attendance among girls students.
Then in a second college, we visited spontaneously and we have also proposed direct training to
teachers and students. When we started to quickly explain the symptoms of witchcraft / possession,
teachers were eager to call their colleagues and very quickly, we've been inundated with questions.
Therefore, we made the training later after endorsement by the Director in order not to disrupt the
smooth running of the college.
Indonesian public schools have the advantage of including a mosque that we use for training and
healing. We were therefore able to accommodate a large number of students and teachers.
Beyond this enthusiasm which naturally delights us, we face a great need to educate and inform the
general muslim public. So is protecting them and their loved ones on an immediate, widespread and
misunderstood. As an illustration, a teacher who we practiced ruqyah on explained how three people
from relatives, had the same dream indicating a charm buried in her front yard - a small glass bottle
with a needle and a string around the needle. They didn't pay attention to the dream, it was only much
later by doing work outside the house that workers did found that charm. Clearly, that was prevented
her from having children and we ask Allah (swt) to ease the pain of our patients.
